Our Home

Jun 13, 2013 by Marie

Set on a beautiful bit of the Fraser Valley just outside of Fort Langley BC (near Vancouver, British Columbia... FYI) is our families home and kennel. Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers live in our home and they are not shy so expect a joyous welcome when you visit! Our rolling hills have ample space for our brood and we love the little ones and big ones. When you come we will allow you the time to get to know our little ones and for us to get to know you. This friendly manner of getting to know your newest addition before taking them home ensures that both of you are comfortable and a great match for each other.

Since our very first meeting with a Wheaten terrier our hearts melted with love. Their large soft eyes and big smiles made us fall in love at first sight!

It’s easy. When you adopt one of our puppies we like to think of you as part of the family. The extended family. We love getting pictures and albums of your little treasure. When we can we post pictures and link to albums of growing puppies. Here are a some pictures and links to families that have shared their joy with us.

If you want to be part of our fun gallery of happy Wheaten parents and family its easy just get our your camera and take pictures of all your happy times. We would love to share them with everyone.

Treat Training 102

Make sure that your treat is the most yummy and your puppy will work hard for it. We use freshly sauteed chicken cut in 1/2 inch cubes placed in a zip lock bag with all the brown juiciness. Your fingers may be finger licking good but don't mind this is one of the ways to introduce new people to your puppy so that he is welcomed and not feeling shy to them. Use this juicy oil on the palm of your hand, let the puppy lick it off so that he gets to know the person better. Remember puppies and all canines identify people through smells and touch. When calling him to you, asking him to sit, or stay always reward with the treat. When he/she comes 100% of the time you are ready to attach a leash. Let him smell it, give a treat so he/she identifies it with something good. Now put him down and call him to you. After repeated success with him coming to you on the leash, take a step backward. Repeat this process going farther and farther back until he/she is following you across the yard. Now turn and call him/her, continue giving the treat for each obedient act of coming. As he/she keeping coming change directions often going in unpredictable direction, you will find that puppy focusing on you and that is what leash training is all about. When the training for each day is over (20 mins max in one session) undo the leash and say 'go play' this is to differentiate between playing and the work of focusing on you and coming when on the leash.

Puppy bonding 101

When your take your precious bundle of pride home remember he or she is only a baby. Like all babies they are unsure but open, insecure but adventurous, timid but willing to learn and above all full of hope for the future. Now is the time to create confidence. Your puppy must know that you love him. He knows this when you pick him up, cuddle and pet him and use your loving and reassuring  voice. Rub his neck and tell him or her that you love them. Make sure that after his bathroom outing, he can roam around your feet and be with you. Use baby gates to keep him in the room with you so that you can keep an eye on him between potty breaks. Use treat training to reward and encourage wanted behaviors, sitting, coming, going out when wanted and doing his job when wanted.  Always keep a delicious treat in a zip lock bag in your pocket for a quick reward. Take him with you if possible in the car and to visit friends. Use a kennel if your friends don't want him on their floor but he can be near you and you can take him/her for a walk or to the coffee shop. Love is about being together and learning that you are the most important person in his/her life. His mommy or daddy!

Our vision is that every puppy will be adopted out to the most caring and loving families where they will live a full happy life with the best health and experiences possible.

Each of our families will receive all support and advise we can give from years of experience and research into the optimum life for your puppy
